7+1 pieces

7+1pieces is a program that helps conceptualize the culture of the Yame region's seven areas, allowing people to experience local culture through their five senses.
The Yame region consists of fertile plains and gentle hills along the Yabe River, where rich agriculture and forestry have been practiced since ancient times. Yame Fukushima has prospered thanks to the blessings of the agricultural and mountainous areas, growing into a hub for traditional crafts and logistics.
During Japan’s Economic Miracle, the region refined materials for high-quality essential items and sold them all over the country. In the modern day, the role has shifted to cultivating and providing both information and experience, using Yame's rich environment and culture to build new industries for the future.

Welcome to 7+1 pieces Restaurant !

The Yame region boasts many traditional foods. These recipes have been preserved and continue to adorn dining tables as cherished aspects of the local food culture.
Traditional foods consumed over an extended period in a particular region are closely tied to the natural environment and location, often serving as symbolic representations of the local culture. At the 7+1pieces Restaurant, the theme revolves around savoring the unique characteristics of the region including Yame, Tachibana, Hoshino, Yabe, Kuroki, Joyo, and Hirokawa-machi, providing an opportunity to experience the culinary culture of Yame.
Traditional foods have been innovatively transformed by our chefs' creativity and techniques, resulting in a seven-course meal. Some of our offerings include Kuroki-produced ingredients x traditional food, Kuroki-produced Yame tea, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks made in Kuroki. These dishes and drinks offer a delightful experience of tasting the local essence.
The 7+1 pieces Restaurant is seasonally exclusive and operates within the historically significant space of the Former Residence of the Kinoshita Family, which is designated as a cultural property by Yame City.

About the place

Designated Cultural Heritage Property of Yame City with 115 Years of HistoryThe Inner Parlor of the Kinoshita Family’s Former Residence (Sakaiya)
Transformed into a Special Restaurant

The Kinoshita family has its origins in the early 17th century, having engaged in the sake-brewing business for generations under the trade name Sakaiya and achieving significant prosperity as an esteemed household. The Separate Parlor, completed in 1908, showcases luxurious craftsmanship, featuring transoms made of single pieces of Yakushima cedar and a rosewood floor step frame. During that time, it served as a separate parlor for receiving and accommodating honored guests.
The floor pillars are made from the rare and robust Japanese persimmon called kuro gaki, known as a one-in-a-million variety of persimmon. The tatami mats are all composed of half-sized mats called hanjo, and the design incorporates the fortunate motif of “ichi-Fuji, ni-taka, san-nasubi,” or “Mount Fuji, a hawk, and an eggplant.” This is believed to bring good fortune when seen in a New Year’s dream. Exploring this residence is like a treasure hunt.
The Kinoshita family believed kuro and hanjo mean profit and prosperity. So through the dedicated use of kuro gaki and hanjo mats, each detail is crafted with a wish for prosperity in business. The sophisticated craftmanship surprises and delights visitors.
It is currently open to the public as a designated cultural property of Yame City and serves as a facility for regular tours. During your stay, please immerse yourself in an elegant and luxurious space, as if you were an honored guest in a bygone era.
